A kayak has been found in the search for a missing north-east man.
Dominic Jackson, 35, was reported missing on Sunday night after failing to return from a sea kayaking trip.
A major search was launched on Sunday night centred around Portsoy Harbour after Mr Jackson failed to return home from a visit to Portsoy Harbour at around 10pm on Sunday.
Police said this morning that a kayak believed to belong to Mr Jackson has been recovered from the sea in the Wick area.
Inquiries are ongoing to confirm ownership of the recovered kayak.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “In connection with the ongoing search for missing kayaker Dominic Jackson, we can confirm that a kayak believed to be that used by Mr Jackson, has been recovered from the sea in the Wick area.
“Enquiries are ongoing to confirm ownership of the recovered kayak.
“Efforts to trace Mr Jackson are continuing.”
On Monday Mr Jackson’s family appealed for information as they assisted search and rescue teams trying to trace him.
In an appeal through Police Scotland, they said: “We are desperately worried for Dominic and would urge him to make contact with his family or police to let us know he is okay.
“This is completely out of character and we just want him home.
“We would also like to thank local people who are assisting with the search.”
