Aberdeen youngsters make voices heard on Hall of Heroes
ByAmy Beveridge
Aberdeen school pupils have been choosing their “heroes” for a new city attraction.
Provost Skene’s House is being redeveloped to tell the story of local people who transformed the wider world.
The ground floor will become a “Hall of Heroes”, dedicated to displaying famous Aberdonians from the stage and screen, music, sport, literature and science.
Local people have been encouraged to vote for their favourites in a poll launched on January 23.
Booklets featuring the candidates were handed out to every city school, and primary seven pupils from Dyce Primary have done project work on their own “heroes”.
Council education convener Angela Taylor, who visited the school, said: “It was great to see the enthusiasm of the youngsters and hear the reasons for their selections.
“The city centre masterplan is a 25-year vision, so it’s vitally important we capture the views of youngsters when we are taking projects forward.”
The poll closes on February 12 and can be accessed through the council’s website, or at Marischal College, and at local libraries and community centres.
