A major new sponsorship deal between a group of north-east festivals and Nexen Petroleum UK Limited was confirmed yesterday.
Aberdeen Festivals, which comprises 10 of the region’s leading events, including Spectra and the Aberdeen Jazz Festival, has secured an exclusive partnership with Nexen, which will run throughout 2017.
The new relationship will see Nexen offer substantial backing to the festivals line-up, which attracts over 170,000 visitors each year and supports local arts, cultural and science sectors in the city and across Aberdeenshire.
The news was announced at the inaugural Cultural Catalyst conference being held alongside the ongoing Spectra.
Nexen’s UK vice president Mike Backus said: “Giving back to the community is deeply rooted in Nexen’s values, and arts and culture are a vital part of the fabric of these communities.
“These festivals all bring something unique to the year-round programme of events, offering a fantastic showcase for the creativity and talent of Aberdeen city and Aberdeenshire.”
Chair of Aberdeen Festivals, Steve Harris, added: “This is an exciting partnership between a global energy business that recognises the importance of supporting our wide-ranging festivals.
“As the region continues to increase its profile as an excellent place to live, invest, work and study, this partnership between all the festivals and Nexen underlines the importance of working together to achieve common goals.”
