More than 30 older people have taken part in the first ever Winter Golden Games in Aberdeen.
The event, which aims to encourage physical activity in the Granite City’s over-65 population, is the first of its kind following the success of the summer Golden Games, launched in 2011.
The day of activities kicked off at Aberdeen Sports Village with an exercise class after a pit stop at Pittodrie Stadium for lunch.
The afternoon included boccia (a ball sport similar to lawn bowls) and racquet sport pickleball. The group then moved on to the Beach Leisure Centre for badminton and walking netball.
The event, staged by the Active Aberdeen Partnership, aimed to thank the Golden Games Ambassadors, for promoting the free sports and activities event within their local communities.
Chairman of the Active Aberdeen Partnership Tony Dawson said: “The Active Aberdeen Partnership is committed to making Aberdeen the most active city in Scotland by 2020.
“The Winter Golden Games play an important role in ensuring opportunities exist for all to take part in sport and physical activity, which is why the AAP is delighted to support this initiative. We know that sport and physical activity can have a positive and lasting impact on the health and wellbeing of older people in our communities.
“To mark the shift in event leadership by holding a special Winter Golden Games, is both fitting and exciting. It is an opportunity to thank the Golden Games Ambassadors who have supported the development of our award winning initiative, and to begin to build momentum towards this year’s games in June 2017.”
This year’s summer event will take place from 7-16 June and will feature more than 40 different activities in venues across the city.
