Aberdeen City Council’s opposing Lib Dem group has become the latest to rule out cuts to music tuition at tomorrow’s budget meeting.
Officers have drawn up around £30million of potential savings at the authority looks to make around £17.5million in cuts.
One of the more controversial options has been for the council to scrap music tuition in schools.
A petition has been launched and has already gained more than 4,000 signatures.
The main opposition group the SNP has already ruled out cutting the service and the ruling Labour party has also said it wouldn’t put the £600,000 saving in its budget.
Now, with the Liberal Democrats joining the chorus, it means that the cuts are unlikely to go ahead.
Group member Jennifer Stewart said: “We recognise that music tuition is an integral part of education and must be available to everyone regardless of their background.
“We are meant to be promoting culture in the city and cutting music tuition would send the wrong signal.”
