A social worker, employed by Aberdeen City Council, has been struck off after he was found to have made racist comments to police officers.
Mark Scott has been removed from the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) register following a hearing which concluded on February 1.
This heard that Mr Scott had displayed similarly unacceptable behaviour for a person in the social work profession between 2009 and 2014.
He had been employed by the local authority as a criminal justice social worker.
In addition to using inappropriate language with a police officer, the hearing also found Mr Scott had made highly inappropriate and sexual comments to another Aberdeen City Council employee while at the Old Schoolhouse pub on Little Belmont Street.
The SSSC report stated: “Your misconduct was serious. You made racist comments to police officers.
“You made sectarian comments. You raised your voice to a colleague.
“You displayed attitudes and views which were incompatible with the profession of social worker.”
The report went on to highlight that a suspension or warning would not have been an appropriate sanction and concluded: “Public confidence in the regulation of social workers is important.
“The nature of your misconduct gave rise to such a public interest. It was appropriate to mark your misconduct with an appropriate sanction.
“In this case, the only appropriate sanction was a removal order.”
