A new initiative to encourage LGBT people in the north-east to step into the boxing ring has been launched.
Aberdeen University’s Boxing Club, working in partnership with Boxing Scotland, is now offering special classes in an effort to attract more lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people to the sport.
The first session, which is also open to those who are not students, will take place at Aberdeen Sports Village on Tuesday, March 7.
Ed Eadie, the captain of the club, said: “We love boxing and want to encourage everyone to join our club, but it has become clear to us that many from the LGBT community have reservations because they see boxing as a macho sport.
“We want to show people that boxing is a great sport that is open to everyone regardless of sex, gender or sexuality, and this class is intended to get that message across while offering a gateway to participation in our main club.”
