Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was indecently assaulted in a north-east town.
Officers were called to Banff on Wednesday at 4.30pm after a woman was approached by a man on Tannery Street.
The man grabbed her and is understood to have run off after being challenged by a member of the public.
Officers are looking for a man in his thirties with a slim build, short brown greying hair and a scar under his right eye.
He was wearing a black muddy puffy jacket, dark blue jeans and blue trainers.
Detective Sergeant Rhona Di Meola, who is leading the investigation, stressed that these types of incidents are rare in the area.
She said: “I would urge anyone who recognises the description of this man to please get in touch as soon as possible while inquiries continue.
“Likewise I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and has information which could assist to also get in touch.
“In particular we would like to speak to a member of the public who intervened as he may have crucial information which could assist.
“The woman involved was not hurt or injured in any way, however the incident would have obviously been distressing.
“I would like to take this opportunity to reassure the public that these type of incidents are extremely rare in the area – and in the north-east generally – and I can provide every assurance that police are taking this report seriously.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101.
