Buchan residents are being urged to join a new volunteer group in an effort to nurture a local community woodland.
Buchan Meadows on the outskirts of Peterhead is a 43-acre woodland, leased from local engineering company Score, which offers environmental activities for all age groups.
It has hosted open days and activities for children and young adults and the group behind the scheme want to widen access to the site.
Peterhead Projects manager, Ken Duncan, explained: “Thanks to our funders, including Big Lottery, People’s Postcode Trust and Sita, we have been able to undertake major works to create a wonderful outdoor facility for people to enjoy.
“The next step, of course, is to ensure this accessible attraction is maintained and further developed to ensure we meet the needs of those using the woodlands.”
Mr Duncan said the scheme needed a “dedicated band of volunteers” to take on activities including tree planting, maintaining the footpaths and fencing, and general tidying.
He added: “The works we are seeking help with are not overly strenuous and will get you out in the great outdoors for some healthy exercise.
”
It is hugely rewarding to be part of the woodland programme and see everyone enjoying the fruits of your labours.”
