A popular fundraising event will return to the north-east after taking a year-long hiatus.
Fraserburgh’s Moonlight Prowl announced its return last night by inviting families across Aberdeenshire to sign up to the charity walk through Fraserburgh later this year.
The distinctive event – a three or six-mile experience – has raised more than £750,000 for cancer research and treatment since it was first started in 2006.
It invites children, men and women to wear pink and walk through the heart of Fraserburgh to raise awareness for charity.
This year, however, the prowl will be boosting the coffers of the Baird Family Hospital and the Anchor Centre project – a £150million facility at the Foresterhill Health Campus in Aberdeen.
This project will result in two new buildings being opened on the site in 2020 to support and enhance the provision of clinical care.
Jacqueline Watt, a committee member of the Moonlight Prowl, responded: “We’re very excited to relaunch the prowl and look forward to supporting the delivery of these two very important facilities.
“Both buildings will include state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities and will offer person-centred environment of care.
“The new hospital will provide accommodation for breast screening, breast surgery and gynaecology services and the Anchor Centre will include care for patients with cancer and patients with blood and bone marrow disorders.”
Registration is open on www.entrycentral.com/theprowl
A sign-up opportunity will also take place on Satu at Fraserburgh’s Community and Sports Centre between 11am and 1pm.
Mrs Watt added: “The event not only raises the awareness of cancer but the challenge also encourages participants to improve their health and fitness.
“With the option of a family friendly three-mile route, or a more challenging six-mile route, participants can choose the option which suits their ability and is often the first step to a more healthy and active lifestyle.”
