An Aberdeenshire town has taken a step closer to becoming a “destination” with its official submission to become a Business Improvement District.
Inverurie’s application to BIDs Scotland was submitted last week along with a business plan that would, if voted through, bring together 199 businesses in the town. And the organisation has given its backing to the submission.
So far, 38% of the local business owners are confirmed as Yes votes for the ballot which will go ahead in May. Postal votes will be sent out to highlighted businesses with the final count taking place on June 22.
Manager of the BID team, Ashley Wilson, is also involved with the Inverurie Events group and is helping to organise the Pride of Inverurie Awards which is part of the BID business plan.
She said: “We want to have events like this every year and the Pride of Inverurie Awards will be a great boost to recognise the very best of the town.
“We also want to help promote Taste of Grampian this year and encourage people to come into the town centre during the weekend when it is on.
“We are hoping to put on shuttle buses from the train station and have a live music event in the town – we want to create a buzz about the place and will have live musicians on the platform welcoming the visitors.”
The Pride of Inverurie awards are open now for nominations for best businessman, best businesswoman, sports personality, unsung hero, young achiever, community champion, tourism hot spot and lifetime achievement accolades.
Bancon Homes have also announced they will be the main sponsors of the event, taking place at Inverurie Town Hall on Friday, August 25.
