Musical theatre legend Elaine Paige is to dazzle an Aberdeen audience with a concert this year.
The star will perform iconic hits from her illustrious career as well as an array of hits from some of her favourite songwriters including Lennon and McCartney when she plays His Majesty’s Theatre on October 27.
Her latest tour follows on from a successful series of concerts at the end of last year, which attracted rave reviews.
As a recording artist, the 69-year-old has released 22 solo albums – including four multi-platinum selling and nine gold, featured on seven cast recordings and had major worldwide hits with songs such as Memory, from the musical Cats, and I Know Him So Well, from Chess.
She was made an OBE in 1995 for services to musical theatre.
She continues to present the weekly BBC Radio 2 programme Elaine Paige on Sunday, which celebrates the best of Broadway, Hollywood and the West End, which is broadcast to 2.5million listeners each week.
She said: “I’m so excited about taking this concert to more venues across the UK, we had such a great time last year. It allows me to do something completely different, a brand new show celebrating songwriters I love such as Harry Nilsson, Randy Newman, Jim Webb, Burt Bacharach, Lennon & McCartney, Tim Rice & Andrew Lloyd Webber – the list goes on – as well as many of my hits. This music has been the soundtrack to all our lives, not just mine. And it’s the ideal opportunity to perform in an intimate way.”
Aberdeen Performing Arts director of programming and creative projects Ben Torrie said: “We are absolutely delighted to be welcoming Elaine Paige to HMT and I know her fans will be just as pleased. Elaine is a hugely influential contributor in the musical theatre world and she has starred in more smash hit West End and Broadway musicals than anyone else of her generation. She has a real star quality and this will be an evening of unmissable entertainment.”
