A number of admissions and surgical procedures were postponed at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary yesterday due to a higher than usual demand for services.
NHS Grampian said the decision to put back certain elective, non-clinically urgent procedures was made yesterday.
However, urgent and emergency procedures were not affected.
In January, a total of 73 theatre operations were postponed due to capacity or non-clinical reasons at ARI, out of a total of 1,248 scheduled.
A spokesman for NHS Grampian said: “We can confirm that ARI experienced a higher than usual demand on services yesterday.
“As a result, the decision was taken yesterday afternoon to postpone some elective, non-clinically urgent procedures.
“Hospital services do experience unexpected peaks in demand at various points throughout the year, and postponing non-urgent, elective procedures is one way that we are able to safely ensure emergency capacity remains unaffected.”
NHS Grampian apologised for any inconvenience caused by the postponements.
