Heartless thieves have stolen a cherished ornament from the garden of a north-east pensioner.
David Keith’s fox statue was given to him by his late wife, Daisy, almost forty years ago but was taken from his Westhill property on Tuesday, March 21.
The 89-year-old believes he was distracted at his door by two men, who asked if he wanted work done to his property, as the prelude to the theft from his lawn.
Mrs Keith, his wife of 65 years, died in November last year aged 85.
Mr Keith said he had kept the garden ornament, nicknamed “foxy”, in the gardens of former homes in Houston, Renfrewshire and Culter in years gone by.
He said: “It just used to sit out at the side of the house and a lot of the children used to sit on it.
“I am still suffering from Daisy’s death in November, so for someone to steal the fox is upsetting. To have it back would just make my day.”
Constable Steve Middleton of the Garioch Community Policing Team said: “The owner of the stolen fox has been left extremely upset by this incident. He is an elderly gentleman and the fox was a given to him forty years ago by his late wife.
“As you can imagine, the item is of great sentimental value to him and he is keen to have it returned to him.
“Two men were seen in the area at the time who may have information that could assist the inquiry and, if anyone has any information, I would ask them to get in touch.
“In the meantime, I would urge the public to keep a look out for the fox and, if they see it or knows where it is, to get in touch.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.”
