A north-east lecturer has criticised UK Government policy on student visas and immigration after a tour of universities in India.
The aim of the trip was to foster relationships between British and Indian law schools.
Dr Paul Arnell visited eight universities, including those in New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, during the tour organised by the British Council.
During the visit Dr Arnell gave lectures to Indian students on the topic of extradition, in a UK and Indian context.
Discussions were held about potential research collaboration, with several members of staff expressing an interest in working with the Aberdeen institution.
Since his return, he has held talks with interested academics, both in Aberdeen and India.
Despite the success of the trip, he found that students had reservations about coming to the UK, with particular concerns about student visas.
Speaking after the trip, Dr Arnell said: “There are tremendous opportunities in India, I discovered that the study of law in India is booming.
“From a student recruitment perspective, however, it is frustrating to have confirmed the fact that a considerable barrier to success is the policy taken by the UK Government to student visas and immigration generally.”
