A north-east bowling club raised more than £1,000 for local cancer causes at a day-long charity event.
The Fraserburgh Leisure Centre Bowling Club organised the fundraiser earlier this month in a bid to help local cancer suffers battle the disease.
Club secretary Rita Cartney said the day of bowling was supported by a selection of raffles and generous community donations. In total, 50 people played bowls on the day and other members joined later for the charity meal.
She said: “Our Fraserburgh Leisure Centre Bowling Club held a fundraising afternoon on Saturday, April 1 in aid of cancer causes and we raised the fantastic sum of £1,020.
“The organisers have arranged for this money to be used locally and we would like to let local people know this.
“It was a fantastic afternoon overall.”
Mrs Cartney said it was important to the organisers and club members that the cash raised on the day remained in the Fraserburgh area to support patients in the community, rather than being spent elsewhere across the UK.
The bowling club is open all day every day at Fraserburgh’s leisure centre. There are around 200 members who use the facility regularly and the club welcome all new members.
