Teenage fundraiser sets £2,000 target for the second year in a row

A north-east teenage fundraiser is planning her second variety show after she successfully raised thousands of pounds for the Archie Foundation last year.

Following the resounding success of her charity concert last year, Chelsea Duncan is taking to the stage once again to raise money for Sands (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society).

On Saturday, August 12, the 14-year-old will present her newest piece, Wish Upon a Star.

Following a similar structure to last year’s programme, the show will feature a mixture of musical and dance performances – and Chelsea will lead with her version of When You Wish Upon a Star.

The charitable teen has also recruited many of last year’s performers who are all delighted to be involved once more.

A variety show is something that Chelsea has always wanted to organise but the idea did not come to fruition until last summer.

Mum Mhairi said: “She’s very much into drama, singing and the theatre – the variety show was a good opportunity to showcase this.”

At the moment the show is just beginning to take shape but it’s a bit trickier this year as a result of Chelsea’s school commitments – especially after having been cast as the lead role in her school’s musical, My Fair Lady.

Last year, Chelsea raised money for The ARCHIE Foundation after they supported her during her time at Aberdeen Royal Sick Children’s Hospital. This year all proceeds will go towards Sands, a charity close to her heart.

“I’ve always wanted to fundraise for Sands and after the show last year I knew I wanted to do another one,” she said.

Speaking of the upcoming event Carolyn Bray, fundraising and events manager at Sands, said: “The efforts of our fundraisers never fail to amaze us here at Sands.

“As a charity we rely on the wonderful generosity of our supporters to continue our work.

“We cannot thank Chelsea enough for organising a variety show to raise funds for us. We wish Chelsea all the best and hope her event is a big success.”

This event will take place at Peterhead Community Centre Theatre. Tickets are £5 and the show starts at 7pm.
