North-east firms will be offered up to £10,000 to help promote sustainable travel as part of a strategy to improve transport.
At its meeting on Wednesday Nestrans will discuss the proposal that businesses be given grants from £500 to £10,000 to make it easier for employees to get to work in a more environmentally friendly way.
The scheme includes providing secure cycle parking and shower facilities, and even making it easier for walkers to access their place of work through training initiatives.
The cash from the transport body will cover up to 50% of any project an employer wants to engage.
In the report to be discussed tomorrow, a spokesman for Nestrans, which is a partnership between both Aberdeenshire and City councils, said there would be a “window” for businesses to apply for the funding.
“It is also suggested that the scheme limit individual organisations to a single application per year, to try and ensure that as many organisations as possible are able to take advantage of the grant,” he added.
“Any organisation may apply, but grants are not available to enable organisations to comply with conditions of planning permission or legal agreements which require them to implement such measures.”
The scheme is the latest initiative Nestrans has brought forward to improve travel between north-east communities and Aberdeen.
It is currently reviewing proposals to reinstate the Buchan railway link which would return trains to the north-east for the first time since the line was scrapped 50 years ago.
Other proposals include dualling sections of the A90 Aberdeen to Peterhead route and a host of safety measures on the A947 Aberdeen to Turriff road.
The Turriff route has been highlighted by the transport body as a “priority”.
