A police officer has gone on trial accused of driving carelessly – and crashing into a car after jumping a red light.
Constable Stacie Harper is alleged to have injured two people, including a colleague, in the incident on Ashley Road in Aberdeen last year.
The 31-year-old is accused of driving without due care and attention, failing to stop at a red light and causing a collision with a Ford Fiesta.
Harper, whose address was listed as care of Police Scotland, denies the charge and went on trial at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.
Louise McIntosh, who was driving the other car, told the court she was driving down Union Grove when she spotted a police car on the wrong side of the road – and had no time to react.
The 62-year-old said: “I was driving my father home.
“I was driving down Union Grove approaching the junction.
“I was driving at no more than 30mph, the light was green.
“As I came onto the junction I saw a police car on the wrong side of the road.
“I only saw it for about four seconds, I had no time to break, then it hit the front of my car.”
When asked by defence solicitor Paul Barnett if she had heard a siren, Ms McIntosh said she had not.
But Gerald Wilson, who was in another car at the traffic lights, told the court the police car had both its lights and sirens on.
The 62-year-old said: “I was coming down St Swithin Street when I saw a police car on Ashley Road.
“It had lights and sirens on.
“I stopped because I didn’t know if it was going to go straight on or turn left or right.
“I saw the other vehicle come out, it was driving way too fast and made no attempt to brake.”
The trial, before Sheriff Christine McCrossan, will continue on May 16.
