A 1980’s pop sensation has said plans to transform the north-east into a world-class destination for dolphin watching will be a Labour of Love well worth it.
The iconic Scottish duo Hue and Cry will be performing as special guests at the Greyhope Gala Dinner on May 12.
Cash raised from the special event will go towards the proposed centre at Greyhope Bay, near Torry.
The planned £10million science and heritage centre will feature a wildlife viewing platform, a restaurant, theatre space and conference rooms.
The project will seek to highlight the north-east as one of the best places in the UK to spot marine wildlife like dolphins and porpoises.
Pat Kane of Hue and Cry said he can’t wait to come up to Aberdeen to perform at the gala.
He said the development will not only do well to highlight the importance of the maritime environment, but will provide key economic benefits to the north-east.
Mr Kane said: “We love Aberdeen audiences, they’re very loyal and they always turn out to see us whenever we play at the Lemon tree, so we’re really happy to be coming back up to the north-east once again.
“I’m all for developments that generate jobs and prosperity in Scotland, and I know that this project is very economically and socially ambitious, so I think it’s great.
“Aberdeen is currently dealing with the question of peak oil, so it’s good to see diverse economic activity like this in Aberdeen, so we’re more than happy to perform at the gala.”
Marine biologist Fiona McIntyre, the managing director of the development, hopes the new facility could be up and running within five years, subj.
The fundraising event on May 12 will take place in a glass-front marquee at the site of the proposed centre on Greyhope Road, and will include a 3D virtual reality tour of the proposed building design.
It will be sponsored by Nexen Petroleum, the Big Partnership and the Village Hotel Club, and will feature catering from local food and drink companies.
Tickets cost £130 individually, and tables cost £1,3000.
