A campaign to support a north-east woman who was involved in a US car accident has raised more than £6,000.
Nicole McLean was knocked down by a vehicle in New York City just one month after her 24th birthday last week.
Miss McLean, from Peterhead, suffered serious injuries in the incident and has been recovering at an American hospital since.
She was on holiday along with her brother, Ryan, and dad, Dave when the accident happened.
In the aftermath, her distraught pals rallied around the family to launch a fundraising campaign to ensure that her parents and brother could be at her bedside until she was strong enough to fly home.
Her mum, Christine, flew out to be there last Saturday.
And her boyfriend arrived on Thursday.
Doctors believe that it could take up to four weeks before Miss McLean is well enough to leave the hospital.
Last night, big-hearted well-wishers had managed to raise £6,285 to support the family.
Friend Hannah Duncan, who started the campaign, has said any funds leftover from it will be split between charities upon the family’s return to Peterhead.
She said: “The cost of travelling and living there for those involved will be very expensive as well as the medical expenses and as her close friends we are taking this opportunity to ask for any donations to make this possible.
“It is so important that Nicole has her loved ones around her at this time as she is so far away from home.
“Nobody ever expects to be in this position and it is something that cannot be planned for. Nicole and her family wish to be very clear that all donations are to help them stay by Nicole’s side while she is recovering in hospital for this long period of time.”
