This “flatpack” caravan certainly makes for one of the strangest-looking cases of fly-tipping seen in the north-east.
The abandoned vehicle was discovered by a member of the public on Wednesday in a lay-by on the Cairn o’ Mount pass.
From a distance it resembles a worn-looking trailer and was left at the junction of the B974 Banchory to Fettercairn road and the Old Miltary Road from Potarch to Cairn o’ Mount.
It appears that the owner dismantled all of the panels and interior before deciding to tie them to the floor of the caravan.
Then rather than disposing of it normally, they decided to dump it.
The land on which the caravan has been abandoned is owned by Fasque and Glendye Estates.
They were unaware of the discovery and declined to comment on the incident.
An Aberdeenshire Council spokesman confirmed that the authority is aware of the caravan and that action will be taken to clear it.
He said: “The caravan has been reported to us as abandoned through our waste line and officers are now taking action to resolve the situation.”
Councillor for Banchory and Mid-Deeside, Jill Webster, was baffled by the case.
She said: “It just makes no sense at all to me that somebody should go to so much trouble to dispose of something in the incorrect manner when we’ve got waste recycling centres where people can easily dispose of waste and where it will be dealt with in the correct manner.
“I would be very critical of fly tipping anywhere but this particular incident seems a very strange thing to do.
“I’m very disappointed that it has happened in an area of such outstanding national beauty.
“I hope it is cleared very quickly because it is such a waste of public resources when the council has to invest in collecting rubbish that is fly tipped in the most inappropriate areas.”
