Two Aberdeen businesses have raised over £21,000 for a children’s charity.
Burness Paull and RSM took part in the Dragons’ Glen Challenge and, between them, amassed £21,436 for Children 1st.
This impressive sum also pushed the total raised by Dragons’ Glen over the £350,000 mark in its fifth year.
Since it started in 2012, the national initiative has raised £358,378 for Children 1st.
It’s an entrepreneurial challenge for Scottish businesses, with every team that takes part tasked with starting a business and creating a product with just £500 of funding.
They then have to generate as much profit as possible for the charity in just five months.
This year’s campaign climaxed with a ceremony at Aberdeen’s Trinity Hall.
A team from Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) were crowned winners after they raised 11,774.94.
Aberdeen’s RSM were a very close second raising £11,316.80, while Burness Paull generated £10,119.30.
RSM came up with the idea of Aberdeen Charity Chocolates; selection boxes with luxury chocolates based on Aberdeen landmarks.
Barbara Kidd, Director of Fundraising for Children 1st, said: “The total raised by Dragons’ Glen since 2012 is phenomenal and has helped improve the lives of over 10,000 children, young people, parents and carers for five years.
“We could not do our work without this support.”
While Burness Paull participant, Grant McGregor, believes the project helped him.
He added: “I felt that taking part in the challenge helped me to improve and strengthen my leadership abilities, communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.”
The competition takes place in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness and Children 1st are now accepting entries for the 2017/18 challenge which begins in September.
