Community projects in Buchan have been invited to bid for a slice of £66,000 which has been earmarked for improving the local area.
The money, which is being provided by Aberdeenshire Council’s Buchan area budget, will be distributed by the Buchan Development Partnership (BDP) in two chunks.
There is £30,000 is available for small projects. Groups can apply for up to £4,000 after plans have been drawn up and have received community backing.
Special attention will be given to projects which encourage training for young people. The money could be spent covering transport costs for participants and volunteers.
A separate pot of £36,000 will be set aside for “one or two larger capital projects” in the Peterhead area which build on ongoing social regeneration efforts in Buchan.
Liz Scott, development officer for BDP said community groups interested in applying for cash – which can “assist them find a sustainable way forward” in a difficult economic period – should also seek match funding.
She added: “In the past this fund has assisted community groups and social enterprises benefit their areas and villages and has helped them to develop strong projects, improve their long-term sustainability and increase their impact in the community.”
Mrs Scott and her team are able help potential projects submit applications.
BDP is an independent community body based in Maud and working across Buchan.
The group runs the Aden Caravan Park near Mintlaw to bring in income.
