It was one of the most unique features at a recent Aberdeen festival.
And now, a student at Robert Gordon University has achieved industry recognition for her design of the Mirrored Pavilion.
Lucy Fisher, 21, an architecture student has been awarded a commendation by the prestigious American Institute of Architects at the UK Excellence in Design Awards 2017.
The pavilion became a focal point of last year’s Look Again Festival, which aims to challenge the way people see the Granite City and encourage them to ‘become a tourist in your own city’ by taking the time to reflect on well-known spaces and places through fresh eyes.
Miss Fisher said: “It was really exciting to see it come to life and is my first project to be realised!
“I am really thrilled that a prestigious authority such as the AIA UK has recognised the Mirrored Pavilion, because I am very proud of it and I know a lot of people in Aberdeen feel the same.
“It is really amazing that just a small project in my home city has reached out and managed to get a commendation from the AIA UK.”
She added: “The Mirrored Pavilion became a piece of artwork in itself and was more of a success than we ever could have imagined and the public really engaged with it.
“The mirrors even provided a distorted reflection which gave a new perspective on some of the city’s iconic granite architecture.”
Professor David McClean, Head of the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and Built Environment, responded: “This award for Lucy’s Mirrored Pavilion is a tremendous accolade for her and for the School and University.
“It is the simplicity and clarity of Lucy’s vision that lies at heart of her design’s success, and this award.”
