It was home to Cove Rangers for almost 70 years… Now you could live there

Football really is coming home for Cove Rangers supporters.

Because aficionados of the Highland League organisation will soon have the opportunity to own some uniquely-named properties on the site of the club’s old ground.

Allan Park was the club’s stadium for 67 years until they left the ground in April 2015.

But a range of houses and apartments are to be built at the Loirston Road site and five of the 48 new homes will be named after people who have made significant contributions to Cove and the wider football scene in Aberdeen and the north east.

Current chairman of the club, Keith Moorhouse is recognised with an apartment named The Moorhouse and another will be called The Reid in honour of current vice chairman Graeme Reid.

The Sheran acknowledges the contribution of Cove manager John Sheran who is now in his second spell as boss at the club and has guided them to three Highland League championship victories.

The Rougvie apartment is named after Doug Rougvie, who was part of the legendary Aberdeen side of the 1980, managed by Sir Alex Ferguson, which defeated Bayern Munich and Real Madrid on the way to winning the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1983.

He also managed Cove in the 1990s, while another player, honorary president and current Scottish Football Association president Alan McRae is recognised with an apartment named The McRae.

Barratt Homes, who are building the apartments, have come up with the idea and Mr Moorhouse thought it was a joke when he first heard about it.

He said: “When I was told, I seriously thought it was a wind-up.

“For Barratt to do something like this I feel really privileged, it’s something else completely, and I’m sure that everyone else who has had a home named after them will say the same.

“The people at Cove do what we do for the love of the club and for the people at the club.

“None of the people involved do it for themselves, in August I will have been at Cove for 20 years and I love the place and the people involved.

“I do things for the club and for the people rather than me.”
