A north-east man has been ordered to pay his fiance’s father £200 in compensation after leaving him permanently scarred during a Christmas day argument.
Adrian Kozlowski appeared in Aberdeen Sheriff Court to be sentenced for the assault having previously admitted the attack.
The court heard that a row broke out after the family had a Christmas meal together in a property on Lang Stracht.
Procurator fiscal Jamie Dunbar said: “The accused and his fiance were preparing to leave when an argument broke out.
“During the course of this the accused butted the complainer striking him on the head.
“Police were contacted as well as an ambulance and the complainer was taken to Aberdeen for Infirmary for his injuries.
“A scar has been left on his forehead.”
Kozlowski had previously admitted to the charge in an earlier appearance.
The 25-year-old, who opted to represent himself, said there were no excuses for his conduct.
He said: “I know I should not do this sort of thing but I just lost my temper.
“We used to live with him but my fiance and our son moved to Banchory to get away.”
He was asked by Sheriff Raymond McMenamin if he had made any efforts to make amends with Mr Gembicka.
He said: “I have not seen him since this happened.
“My fiance does not want me to contact him.
“I would like to do something but I do not think it is the time, he does not want to see me.
“My son still sees him once a week.”
Sheriff McMenamin then said: “Headbutting is something which the court takes seriously.
“Your finance’s father has been left with a scar albeit a not particularly big one.”
Kozlowski, whose address was given as Millan View in Lumphanan Banchory, was ordered to pay a fine of £550.
£200 of this will be passed onto Mr Gembicka as compensation for his injury.
