Vandals have caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to cars in the West End of Aberdeen.
Residents of Chattan Place and Claremont Street emerged from their homes yesterday morning to discover vehicles had been deeply scratched across the doors and bonnets.
It is believed the vandals struck between 7.15pm and 10.15pm on Saturday evening.
A total of 16 cars were targeted on the two streets.
A spokesman for the Police Scotland control room in Dundee said he was unable to comment on the incident.
One person who was affected was Martin Findlay, who lives on Angusfield Avenue.
He said he was at a loss to understand why anyone would do it.
He said: “We counted 13 cars on Chattan Place and three on Claremont Street which had been affected.
“They seem to have gone all along one side of the street and up one more.
“They have scratched my car pretty deeply, round the back, both doors and damaged the bonnet.
“My panels will likely have to be replaced, I have no idea how much it will cost.
“I have no idea why anyone would do this.
“It’s a sad indictment on some parts of our society.
“It’s disappointing that this happens in our city.
“I can’t fathom the lack of respect people have for the property of others.
“It is quite unusual for the area.”
“The street was dark and there is no CCTV, hopefully someone will have seen or heard something.”
Martin Greig, chairman of the Grampian Community Safety Partnership, urged anyone with information to contact the police.
He said: “This criminal activity is despicable.
“People rely on their car and the expensive damage to this private property is vindictive and nasty.
“It is vital to catch the wrong doers.
“Anyone who can help identify the criminals should contact the police on 101.
Information can also be given in confidence to the independent charity Crimestoppers.”
