A youth music project in the north-east’s biggest town will continue this year after receiving fresh funding.
Drumming Up Peterhead, run by Peterhead-based performing arts group Modo, encourages young people to take part in activities to make the town centre more vibrant.
Throughout the summer Modo will be running a programme of activities, performances and workshops for youngsters and the wider public around Peterhead
Last night Modo’s creative director Martin Danziger said: “We are delighted to announce that Drumming Up Peterhead has been given funding to continue this year.
“It is an initiative to bring life, people and business to the town centre. Modo is working in partnership with Aberdeenshire Council to coordinate a programme of community led events in Drummer’s Corner.”
Mr Danziger and his team have invited all sorts of local groups – including schools, youth, sports, arts, community, voluntary and uniformed services – to take part.
He added: “Whether you have a five minute dance or two hours of workshops and demonstrations, we will hope to find a slot for everyone.”
The Drumming Up Peterhead events will take place between 12-3pm on selected Saturdays between June 10 and December 16.
Modo has agreed to provide the necessary equipment and staffing for public performances. This will include stewarding, sound systems and barriers as well as coordination of licensing.
