Police were last night still continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding a one-vehicle crash which resulted in a woman being airlifted to hospital.
The incident happened in the afternoon of March 14 this year, when a female driver was seen to “spin-out” and collide with a tree just yards from Lonmay’s Ban-Car Hotel.
The driver, who has not been named by police, was the only occupant of the Audi vehicle.
And yesterday, a spokeswoman for the police said no one had been charged in connection with the incident.
She added that inquiries were “on-going”.
The 38-year-old, who is understood to be from Fraserburgh, is thought to have been travelling towards the town at the time of the incident.
Her injuries were so severe that she had to be taken by air ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI).
She had to be cut out of the vehicle before being transported.
From the roadside it could be seen that the vehicle’s engine was no longer within its chassis following the crash.
Police, fire and paramedics had been called to the scene – about 1,000ft from a speed camera – shortly after 4.30pm to help.
One witness, who was travelling on a bus nearby at the time of the crash, described seeing the car “spinning out”.
A nearby resident added that the road was a known “hot spot” for accidents.
He said: “I’m not surprised to hear another crash has taken place.
“I wouldn’t like to say what has happened here, but that corner is severe.
“There needs to be another camera added.”
At the time, a police spokeswoman said the woman involved had suffered “serious injuries”.
And from the roadside, Sergeant Rory Campbell added: “There has been a crash involving a 38-year-old female and a single car.
“Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.”
Paramedics at the crash also confirmed that the driver’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening
