Preparations are in full swing for the opening of an iconic Aberdeenshire visitor attraction.
With less than two weeks to go until the Stonehaven Open Air Pool opens again for the summer, the band of volunteers behind the scenes have been hard at work.
The Friends of Stonehaven Pool group has been running the pool in partnership with Aberdeenshire council.
Starting as soon as the pool closed for the winter, the group have been hard at work sprucing up the facility – refurbishing cubicles in the ladies’ changing room and the gent’s toilet.
They have also converted the coin-return machines in the lockers to accept both the new and old pound coins.
Chairman of the Friends of Stonehaven Open Air Pool, Pete Hill said: “The usual cleaning and painting work has been done – which in itself is a major undertaking – it takes a huge amount of work and planning.
“However, we got a nasty shock when we discovered that only one of the thermal pool covers could be repaired after both covers were badly damaged at the end of last season by high winds.
“Suddenly, we need to find additional funds to ensure that these covers are up to their task of retaining heat and also keeping debris out of the pool during the hours it is closed.”
To help boost funds, the group is hosting a race night on Saturday at the town’s bowling club.
The pool re-opens for the summer on May 27 at 11am. Tickets are available from Wendy Rudd on (01569) 765547.
