Plans for a £20million revamp of a site in Aberdeen city centre have been launched.
LDA Designs held a public consultation into its proposals for the Union Terrace Gardens in December and 1,400 people took part.
And after a majority gave them a nod of approval they have now submitted plans for Aberdeen City Council to consider.
Images released by the developers show how the historic features of the site would be retained while a public plaza would be created at the north end of the area including an events space, water features and a cafe pavilion.
The William Wallace Statue would remain in place while a mirror pool would surround it.
The plans indicate the pool could be drained away so that parades and events could still go ahead.
A statement from the developers explained how it would work.
It said: “As night falls, the pavilion will be gently illuminated to complement the Union Terrace Garden lighting concept and provide a safe, alluring focal point for the upper level of the development proposal.”
Under the plans the Bon Accord crest would be relocated but there are two options over its final position.
The first of these, which is preferred by the developers, is to include the crest within the amphitheatre at the northern part of the slope near His Majesty’s Theatre.
The second is to create a large scale crest within the easterly section of the amphitheatre, creating a new planning feature.
The Robert Burns statue will be kept in its current location but there would be a gateway building will be created behind it.
If the developers are given permission by the council to go ahead they would aim to have the work done by autumn 2019.
