A teenager was left with a serious facial injury after a brawl in a north-east village, just days after nearly 20 people were charged in connection with gang violence in the region.
Four teenagers have now been charged in connection with the disturbance which broke out in Newtonhill on Friday night.
Police descended on the football pitch on Newtonhill Road, not far from the Tesco Metro after being alerted to the incident just before midnight.
The incident came about a week after a spate of organised gang violence in Inverurie, forcing police to step up patrols in the town and surrounding area.
A 17-year-old boy is believed to have been attacked with a bottle and was left with a severely swollen face.
Last night, police confirmed two men aged 17 and 16 and two boys aged 15 have now been charged in connection with the assault on him.
One resident of the street, who did not want to be named, became aware of what was happening after spotting flashing blue lights on the other side of his hedge.
He said: “I looked out my bedroom window and saw there were two police cars, an unmarked car, and a police van.
“There were maybe about eight police officers moving around, they had flashlights and were peering on the ground.
“I can only think they would have been looking for traces of blood because they were looking so closely.
“There were then another couple of police who were frogmarching someone up the road and they put him in the van.
“I’ve lived in the village for 40 odd years and I’ve never seen any nonsense like that at all,” he added.
An ambulance was called to the scene and took the injured teen to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.
It is not known how long he was in hospital but yesterday he was back at his family home in the village.
The family declined to comment when approached by the Press and Journal.
The ambulance service confirmed they had sent one ambulance to the scene.
Police have said they are continuing their investigations into the incident.
The 15-year-olds have been reported to the youth justice management unit, while the older pair have been reported to the procurator fiscal.
The incident, which is being treated separately, follows a high-profile police crackdown on gang violence following a series of pre-organised fights last weekend.
Police have now arrested and charged 18 people in connection with the brawls which took place in Inverurie last weekend.
