Roads near to Aberdeen’s beachfront are set for eight days of restrictions as “much needed” resurfacing work takes place.
A contraflow will be in use from 6pm on Sunday on the pothole filled Beach Esplanade until midnight on May 29.
It will affect the road between its junctions with the Beach Boulevard and the access road into the Links Ice Arena car park.
There will also be a suspension of waiting on either side of the same stretch of road.
Links Road will be closed between its north junction with Esplanade and the access road into the Links Ice Arena car park.
Accommodation Road will also be closed between its junctions with Esplanade and 190 metres south of this junction, for a short time during the works.
The existing width restriction on the Esplanade will be suspended for the duration of this order.
An Aberdeen City Council spokeswoman said that the restrictions were being put in place for “public safety”.
She said: “The restrictions are in place in the interests of public safety during road surface repair works including patching works.”
An alternative route for the Esplanade is available via Esplanade, East North Street, Park Street, Park Road, Accommodation Road and Esplanade. An alternative route for Links Road is available via Links Road southbound.
Those who would normally use Accommodation Road are being asked to use the diversion via Park Road, Urquhart Road, Links Road and Esplanade.
George Street and harbour councillor Michael Hutchison, who also serves as SNP infrastructure spokesman, said the works are “much needed”.
He said: “I realise that this will be frustrating for drivers but I do think that the works are necessary since the road there are in quite a poor state.”
He was echoed by fellow Conservative ward councillor Ryan Houghton who said the works would be a “welcome improvement” for motorists.
