Aberdeen’s first trampoline park will bounce into action in time for the summer holidays.
Jump In bosses are in the process of transforming the former base of collapsed glazing firm AC Yule at West Tullos Industrial Estate into a leisure facility.
The company initially lodged plans for the site last year. The application was initially refused after council officers objected to the site’s out-of-town location and potential conflict with existing uses in the area. But councillors subsequently overruled the decision in March.
The park is set to open by the start of July and 60 jobs will be created.
The facility will include interconnected trampolines and wall trampolines, as well as a foam pit, air bag, dedicated toddler jump and a Gladiators-style beam.
A spokesman for Jump In said: “Hi Aberdeen! We are so excited to confirm that your Jump In arena will be open for the summer holidays!
“It’s going to be a great summer.”
Residents in the area were the decision of council officers to block the scheme. A petition was subsequently launched in support of the venture, which gained more than 2,300 signatures
Gavin Lucas, chief executive of the company which has established parks in several English locations including Warwick, Harrogate and Slough as well as plans for a park in Edinburgh, previously said the interest and engagement from local people has been “overwhelming and humbling”.
Founders Linsey Willaford-West and Vernon West launched Jump In after enjoying a visit to a trampoline park on a family holiday to Fort Worth, Texas.
