A north-east butcher has skewered the competition to claim top prizes for their kebabs and chicken in a national competition.
Bruce of the Broch scooped four gold awards at the Scottish Craft Butchers Awards, which were presented at the Scottish Meat Trade Fair in Perth.
The Broad Street butcher was praised for their meat kebab combo, chili beef and chicken “riggler”, honey roast en-croute and Jack Daniels chicken meal.
They were also handed a further four silver awards for offerings including their macaroni and black pudding.
The awards ceremony recognised the best barbecue products, ready meals and ready-to-cooks products currently available at butcher’s counters in Scotland.
Douglas Scott, chief executive of the Scottish Craft Butchers organisation, praised the high standard of entries to this year’s awards.
“It is important for us to encourage our local butchers to produce quality new and innovative offerings to interest customers during summer barbecue season and those who find they have limited time to prepare meals.”
Mr Scott said “discerning customers” still look to their local butcher as the best place to by meat.
“Scottish butchers like Bruce of the Broch are leading the way with some of the best products in Scotland – using fresh ingredients – and we’re delighted they’ve achieved such high recognition from their industry.
“These awards show customers just what a high standard their local butcher sets.”
The annual awards attracted around 230 entries from 40 butchers across the country.
