The man leading the effort to set up the city’s second men’s shed has said that it could give retired men a “new lease of life” – if they can to get the project off the ground.
Rab McKerron is the chairman of the Bridge of Don’s Men Shed group, which is aiming to set up a project in the area.
The group are currently looking for premises to host their shed, and are considering methods of funding to secure a site.
The Scottish Men’s Shed website lists one other project in Aberdeen, with a Ferryhill shed currently being set up.
There are also men’s sheds open in Dyce and Westhill, and another is being set up in Portlethen.
The Bridge of Don group currently has 20 members, and the organiser insists it is open to men with all sorts of interests.
Mr McKerron said: “The men’s shed is whatever you want out of it. There doesn’t necessarily have to be hammering and banging and sawing – it can be talking, it can be a get together for a game of pool.
“There’s a chap who wants to make model boats, we’ve got a whole range of guys.”
“Every men’s shed that I’ve been to, the guys have got a new lease of life. They’ve made a lot more friends, they’ve learnt things.”
The group’s next meeting is open to anyone who wants to attend, and will take place on June 1 at 6.30pm in Kettock Lodge.
