As Aberdeen prepare to take on Celtic in today’s Scottish Cup Final, they have found some unusual support – from the deepwaters of the Gulf Of Mexico.
Dons fans working offshore in the basin took to social media to share a picture of the “MadDog” Remotely Operated Vehicle, clipping a message of support to a piece of subsea infrastructure.
The onboard camera shows the ROV’s claw arm holding the sign before the pilot props it up – more than 4,000 ft below the surface.
It is believed that the “MadDog” reference means that the ROV is assigned to the oil field of the same name, 190 miles (310km) south of New Orleans.
The rig worker behind the idea, a lifelong Aberdeen fan, was helped in his deepsea endeavours by the rest of his US crew members.
And they are all now preparing to watch the match on the production platform.
