Hundreds of dog-lovers and their four-legged companions packed out a historic Aberdeenshire estate yesterday for a local charity’s biggest fundraiser.
Aberdeen-based canine re-homing charity Dog Action Working Group Scotland (DAWGS) held its annual fun day at Haddo Country Park near Methlick – and the show was hailed a great success.
The event – A Day in the Country with DAWGS – included a variety of shows with a focus on “fun” rather than perfection and there was also a doggy tea party tent, stalls, games and a barbecue for visitors.
The charity specialises in rehoming dogs throughout the area, and further afield, and has paired more than 3,000 pooches with new owners since it was set up over 20 years ago.
Thankfully, the weather held out for the many visitors to the event on the 18th-century estate, built around the stately Haddo House.
Organisers put on a range of light-hearted animal pageants and races, including the “waggiest tail” competition, the “best paw shake” and the “dog most like its owner”.
It’s thought that hundreds of pounds have been raised for the charity in the process.
Founded in 1994, the organisation finds loving families for those who can no longer look after their pets and is based near Kingswells in Aberdeen.
