Aberdeen business chiefs to travel ‘around the moon’ for charity Charlie House

The head of an Aberdeen-based business development company is preparing to travel the circumference of the moon to raise cash for children with life-limiting conditions across the north-east of Scotland.

Chris Robinson, the managing director of Collaborative Business Development and his colleague Sean Gordon will travel a total of 6785 miles -the distance around the moon – to raise money for Charlie House.

Whether running, walking or swimming, the pair will have to cover 33 miles a day together to reach their goal before the end of the year.

And by the end of their gruelling ordeal, the duo hope to have raised £100,000 for Charlie House, to help the organisation support youngsters with some of the most severe medical conditions in the north-east of Scotland.

Mr Robinson, 37, said he and Mr Gordon are reaching the end of their preparations for their ambitious challenge, which begins on June 1.

Mr Robinson added: “We initially wanted to do 10,000km (6213 miles), but when you tell people that number, it seems a bit too big to properly understand how far that is.

“So we decided to make it the circumference of the moon, 10,921km (6785 miles).

“We’re aiming to finish the challenge by the end of the year, but to do that we’re going to have to do at least 54km (33 miles) a day between us.

“But we’re not just going to run it or cycle it, we’re going to do anything we can – swimming, rowing, walking…. anything we can to hit our goal.

“We’re hoping to raise £100,000 for Charlie House. The most they have been donated is £50,000, and I don’t do things by halves so I wanted to double that.

“Charlie House is our chosen charity because we wanted to support a local cause that makes a huge difference for children with life-limiting illnesses all across the north-east.

“In my business, we always try and source everything we need locally, so I thought it would be good to get a north-east charity on board as well – and we’ve got local groups supporting the challenge too with time and equipment.”
