Hundreds of midnight moonwalkers will take to the streets of Huntly next month to raise awareness of cancer.
The Sunrise Walk, organised by local Marie Curie volunteers, will bring together people affected by the disease to walk a 10k route round the north-east town.
Organisers are anticipating that 200 people will take part in the event which sets off at midnight from the local golf club.
Last night, Angie Smith, one of the charity’s volunteers, said it was a way of helping isolated people re-connect with the community.
She added: “Huntly is a very close-knit community and we felt there was a need for people to come together and think about what they had gone through.
“Marie Curie doesn’t just help people with cancer, it’s also people who have other terminal illnesses.
“We thought it would be positive to help people who had been left behind connect with others who were in a similar position.
“The idea behind having it at midnight is so that, when people come back at the finish, it’s a new day.”
The event, which will also raise funds for the charity’s regional operations, has already won the support of various local companies who will provide food and drink on the night.
And the organisers hope that, if this idea is a success, they can expand the event in coming years to include other groups and charities.
