An Aberdeen woman who lost her eternity ring while out canvassing ahead of the general election has launched a heartfelt appeal to have it returned to her.
Anne McCallum, 62, was given her 18ct blue topaz ring – complete with diamond settings – 22 years ago by her husband to celebrate her 40th birthday.
While she was handing out leaflets for the Gordon candidate, David Evans, last Saturday morning, she noticed her engagement and eternity rings kept getting caught in letterboxes, and put them both in her back pocket.
Later that afternoon when she went to feel for them, she noticed one was missing and felt “completely sick”.
After reporting the missing jewellery to the police, the Aberdeen University researcher and her husband retraced their steps around the Ashwood Road area of Aberdeen, but with no positive results.
She is now offering a reward to anybody who can help her retrieve the cherished item.
Mrs McCallum said: “I thought, rather than lose my rings through a letterbox, I would pop them safely in my back pocket.
“That was on Saturday morning close to Ashwood Road in Bridge of Don. I went home for lunch, and went out again to the new houses at Shielhill.
“I was putting my phone into my back pocket and only felt one ring. I felt completely sick.
“There are obviously worse things happening in the world, but it’s just so special to me.
“As soon as I realised it was missing, my husband and I went back to Ashwood Road and we walked the whole area where we had been delivering, but didn’t see it anywhere.
“I’ve reported it missing to the police, so it might turn up as lost property there, but at the moment, I’ve still got hope that someone might come across it.
“It’s a very unusual ring that would be difficult to replace – it’s got a blue topaz and diamonds, with a slightly curved band that fits around my engagement ring.
“Right now, I am praying to St Anthony, the patron saint of things that are lost, but then again there are a lot of magpies about at this time of year that might fancy it for their nest.”
Anybody who has found the ring or wishes to help Mrs McCallum can phone her on 07539 473645.
