Police have today named a Huntly pensioner as the man killed in a two-vehicle smash on the A96.
67-year-old Alexander Ogg was travelling on the route around half a mile west of Pitcaple, Inverurie at the time of the crash.
The collision, on Monday afternoon at around 3.30pm, involved a white Honda Jazz and a red Renault Master van. Mr Ogg had been driving the Renault van.
The 85-year-old male driver of the Honda Jazz was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries. No one else was involved.
Fire crews also attended with two appliances coming from Inverurie and one from Huntly.
A fire spokesman said one person was cut free from their vehicle.
The road was closed for several hours while emergency services dealt with the incident. Local diversions were put in place until the road re-opened at around 8pm.
A spokesperson from Police Scotland urged anyone with information to contact Police Scotland on 101.
