An intrepid fundraiser who is tackling a 9,500-mile trek around the coast of the British Isles to raise £50,000 for the RNLI has reached the north-east.
Alex Ellis-Roswell is walking righ around of Britain, Ireland and the Isle of Man in a bid to support life-saving marine volunteers across the country.
Mr Ellis-Roswell left his home in Kent on August 3, 2014 on the 9,500-mile journey. On the way he is visiting every RNLI lifeboat station to raise funds and awareness of the work they do.
To date the 24-year-old has surpassed his target and raised nearly £51,000 and now he is on the final stretch, heading south along the east coast.
“The east coast of Scotland is surprising and impressing me, it’s beautiful,” Mr Ellis-Roswell said.
“I’m raising money for RNLI lifeboats, £50,000 so far. I started walking around the 9,500-mile coast of England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and Isle of Man on August 3, 2014. And I’ve only got 1,500 miles left to walk.”
Mr Ellis-Roswell has already travelled around the south coast of England, the Welsh coast and walked around the Isle of Man.
He reached the Outer Hebrides in January and embarked on a 200-mile clockwise walk around the Isle of Skye in February.
In April Mr Ellis-Roswell spent about two weeks walking the coastline and visiting the Stromness, Longhope and Kirkwall lifeboat stations, before heading to Shetland.
Now in the north-east, he will make his way south along the Aberdeenshire coastline this week. He hopes to arrive home in Kent in early August.
Victor Sutherland, coxswain at Fraserburgh lifeboat station, said: “If you see Alex be sure to give him a wave, a shout of encouragement and even better throw a few pounds in his collection bucket.
“Alex has been walking around every Lifeboat station in the UK and Ireland since August 2014. When he turns to the south at the north-east corner here he will have 1,500 miles to go before he gets home.
“Please please give Alex a shout and a pound or whatever if you see him along our coast.”
