A number of motorists have been caught driving too fast after the speed limit of a busy north-east commuter road was slashed last weekend.
A section of the A96 Aberdeen to Inverurie road near Tyrebagger has now been reduced from 70mph to 40mph, and a speed camera has been put in place on the route facing north.
In one video posted online, the device flashed two drivers in the space of just 10 seconds.
The change has been put in place following a number of accidents on the busy road over the years.
Councillor Fergus Hood, who represents East Garioch, said: “We know speeding has historically been an issue in the area, and I personally welcome the 40mph speed limit.
“I am aware of there being a number of serious incidents on the Tyrebagger road over the years – this measure will help to improve road safety.
“Speeding is something that is commented on a lot to me at community council meetings.”
Mr Hood urged motorists to plan ahead when travelling through the area, and to give themselves plenty of extra time to deal with the new speed restrictions.
He said: “I would urge people to leave a bit more time for their journey and give themselves five or 10 more minutes to get to their destination, and for congestion.”
The speed limit cut comes after a police report revealed the A96 Aberdeen to Inverurie road to be one of many across the north-east highlighted by officers as part of efforts to crack down on accidents.
In a report for Aberdeenshire Council’s communities committee, Chief Superintendent Campbell Thomson said: “Officers targeted our priority routes of A90, A96, A98, A93, A944 and the A947, as analysis shows all have had higher instances of injury collisions.
“Officers have used a mixture of high visibility marked vehicles along with the use of unmarked cars.”
Last year, there were around 141 serious injuries on Aberdeenshire roads, and 64 in Aberdeen.
