A woman will finally begin making payments to a man she duped out of more than £14,000- after landing a new job.
Charlotte Roche tricked Matthew Pilgrim, whom she met through an online dating site, into giving her money for “treatment and post-operative care” claiming she might be suffering from ovarian cancer.
Roche, whose address was previously given in court as Great Northern Road, Aberdeen, told him she needed surgery and could avoid a six-month wait on the NHS by paying to go private.
He gave her £14,320 and, last July, she was ordered to repay it at a rate of £1,000 a month.
However, she was jailed for three months in August for stealing more than £3,000 from the John Clark BMW dealership in Aberdeen.
She appeared in the city’s sheriff court in October, December and again in May over her failure to repay any of the fine.
But yesterday, Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard that Roche had found “gainful employment” and was now in a position to pay around £300 a month.
Sheriff Morag McLaughlin ordered Roche to come back to court to review whether she was making the payments on December 1.
