A string of north-east organisations could discover today whether they have secured funding for important projects.
Community councils have submitted bids for schemes across the region which will be discussed at the meeting of the Banff and Buchan area committee.
Among the seven initiatives contending for funding – a pot of £3,325 – is a proposal to purchase replacement street lamp decorations in Inverallochy and two benches for a coastal path which runs from St Combs to Fraserburgh.
The council would need to find an extra £1,672 to fund all of the projects. Which means some are likely to miss out at today’s meeting.
Maria Walker, the council’s director of education, will present the projects to councillors this morning.
She will remind the members of the committee that community councils can apply for up to 80% of the total funding of a project through the grants fund.
She added: “The aim of the Banff and Buchan community council project grant is to support and empower community councils to raise funds for schemes, projects and other purposes within their stated objectives.
“The total of all seven requests for funding is £4,997 which is greater than the sum of £3,325 in the project grant fund.”
Fraserburgh community council’s bid for £800 to help fund Christmas celebrations in the town is also vying for a share of the cash.
The group wants the money to help stage events to make locals “feel positive about the town and encourage them to return”.
King Edward and Gamrie community council, meanwhile, has requested £796 to replace gates at the village cemetery.
The community council has branded the current gates as “very poor” which makes access to the graveyard difficult for visitors.
