A circus troupe has secured enough grant funding to bring performing arts workshops back to Fraserburgh.
Peterhead-based Modo submitted a bid for a chunk of a £100,000 grant fund open to projects which boost the health and well being of Fraserburgh town centre residents.
Creative director Martin Danziger and his team wanted to offer young people arts training and volunteering opportunities. The organisation previously had a presence in the town but cut back activities due to funding issues.
But now Modo has successfully secured £5,100 From the Your Voice Your Choice scheme.
Overseen by Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Partnership, the initiative earmarked £100,000 of investment for the town. Groups were invited to submit bids which were then put to the public vote.
Mr Danziger said: “We will run 12 weeks of free circus workshops for young people in Fraserburgh in preparation for the biggest community event in the area, Aden-een.
“Since 2010, hundreds of young people from Fraserburgh have participated in Modo events. They will help to produce and rehearse for their performances in an accessible venue and, on the night, we will provide transport for all performers to and from the event.”
This week the Blootoon Picaroons Modo group traveled to Italy to perform at the Jembe Festival in Monte Compatri.
Other successful applicants to the Your Voice Your Choice in Fraserburgh scheme include Broch Blether Cafe, Fraserburgh Secret Garden and Fraserburgh Sea Cadets.
