A man punched his former wife in the face after the drunken pair became embroiled in a row over a text from another woman.
Steven Dalgarno, aged 44, lashed out after his former spouse let herself into his home and threw the contents of an air freshener in his face.
The tension had began earlier in the evening when they attended a sports club function for one of their sons on May 4 this year.
Fiscal depute Amanda Allan told Aberdeen Sheriff Court: “They had consumed a substantial amount of alcohol. The accused left at 11pm following an argument with the complainer.
“Later on, she left and went to his place and she found the accused half asleep on his sofa.”
A further argument ensued, at which point he pushed her out of the house and into the front garden.
Ms Allan added: “He punched her in the face causing her to fall to the ground. She sustained light bruising to her face. Neighbours observed from the window and the police were called.
“Neighbours also saw him on top of her, straddling her. He threw another punch at her, but witnesses were not sure if it connected.”
Dalgarno, of Wellside Gardens, Aberdeen, pleaded guilty to assault.
Defence agent Les Green said: “Normally they get on very well, they still go on holiday together for the sake of the children.
“There is an element of jealousy from the complainer which gets into her head when he speaks to other women.
“She has texted him today to say she hopes it goes well for him in court.”
Sheriff Malcolm Garden told Dalgarno: ” I accept this was a difficult situation and there was significant provocation involved. Nevertheless the moment you punched her in the face the court had to become involved.”
He fined Dalgarno £220.
