Police are probing the “despicable” theft of a range of items, including Second World War medals from a home in Aberdeen.

A property in the Seafield area of the city was targeted between Wednesday morning and Thursday afternoon this week and thieves made off with other valuables including jewellery, an old district nursing badge and a full dress kilt.

The total worth of the items stolen in the incident is understood to be more than £1,000.

Local councillor Martin Greig branded the theft “malicious” and urged anyone with information to contact the police as soon as possible.

He said: “This is a despicable crime.

“It is really nasty to hear that precious mementos have been stolen.

“Clearly, these items will have been won and much deserved by the individual who owns them.

“This theft is malicious and hopefully the items and be recovered.

“I would encourage anyone who has any information about it to contact the police or crimestoppers.”

Detective sergeant John Snedden said there had been “no regard” for the emotional impact this would have on the individual involved.

He added: “These items hold high sentimental value and I can’t begin to imagine the distress this has caused.

“This is a completely despicable theft where there has been no regard for the emotional and financial impact on the people targeted and I can assure the public it will not be tolerated.

“I would urge anyone with information or anyone who saw any suspicious people in the area around the time in question to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 if you would prefer to remain anonymous.”
